Material Connections - Tabs & Rivets

  • University Of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Peck School Of The Arts (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This workshop is an introduction to the fundamental metalsmithing techniques used in creating handcrafted jewelry. Each student will learn the basics of how to effectively use a jeweler’s saw, metal files, and sandpaper.  We will also explore how to execute TWO major types of cold connections - rivets and tabs. There will be opportunities to join different types of metal together, different shapes of metal together, create layered designs, create motion or movement between design components, and integrate larger cabochon stones. We will create pendants out of the material connections and explorations.

Mother's Day Yoga & Mala Bracelets

Mala bracelets are wearable objects that have been used in meditation practice to anchor awareness and intention into the present moment for centuries. During this workshop we will create a one-of-a-kind intention and vibration-infused mala bracelet for personal transformation and empowerment. We will meditate on the sound of Tibetan singing bowls, connect to our heart’s desire, cultivate an intention, create an intention-infused bracelet, and then finish by integrating it all with yoga postures lead by Alex Druzny.

This mala will become a vibrational anchor for your meditation practice and each time you wear it, it will resonate and root you into the vibration of your intention.

New Moon & Divine Mother Mala Necklace Workshop

The new moon is an auspicious time for creation. It is said that the veil between the spiritual plane and the physical plane is thinnest. We will honor the Divine Mother, within and without, by choosing to use this potent time to create new intentional objects that will enhance our journey towards dharma. Make one for the Divine Mother within or make one for your human mother for Mother’s Day.

The Divine Mother is the aspect of God that is the creator. During this workshop, we will create a one-of-a-kind intention and vibration-infused hand-knotted mala necklace. Mala necklaces are used in meditation as a counter and physical focal point for your awareness. Malas contain 108 beads, one guru bead, and are knotted in between each bead. Each component of a Mala is loaded with symbolism that is intended to empower and activate both the conscious and subconscious mind for self-transformation.

We will begin with a guided meditation that will connect you to your heart’s desire, set intentions, design and assemble our customized malas, and finish with a deeply relaxing sound bath that will infuse your beads and body with pure frequencies that have been used in meditation for centuries.

The mala will become a vibrational anchor for your meditation practice and each time you wear it, it will resonate and root you into the vibration of your intention.

Cost: $50.00 + Materials*

*Caitlin will have “Mala Kits” available for participants to purchase that will vary in price from $10.00 - $30.00 depending on the stones. Students can also bring their own materials if they have a particular vision in mind. If students are purchasing their own supplies, these are recommended: Griffin No.6 Silk Cord, a tassel (optional), 108 beads (6mm or 8mm wide with 1mm holes (minimum)), and one larger bead for the guru bead.
